If you've never been to or hosted a house concert, here's what you need to know! First of all, a house concert is simply an intimate concert in a home. Plenty of fun, party, and chatting will happen before and after the music, but the intent of the concert portion of the event is to be a quiet listening event. These nights are often magical, as the intimate feel and atmosphere gives us the freedom to interact in a way that isn't possible in a larger venue.
Our goal is $1,000 per concert, which would be 50 people @ $20 or 40 people @ $25, etc.
Fine print: if your space won't accommodate 40-50 people, think about whether you think you can draw 30 people at $35, 25 people at $40, etc. Another option could be to pay a portion of the $1,000 yourself and count on your guests to cover the remainder. We are willing to help you figure it out!
We will do weeknights or weekends. Fill out the form below on your preferences and we'll work something out!
It will take us about an hour and a half to set up. The house concert will consist of two 40 minute sets with a 20 minute break in the middle.
A typical schedule normally looks something like this:
5pm - SMB arrives, sets up, sound check
6:30pm - guests arrive
7pm - music begins [7-7:40 set 1, break until 8, 8-8:45 set 2]
Food & Drinks:
The way you want to do this is up to you. You can either provide appetizers and drinks for people, or have people bring stuff! Often people make house concerts BYOB and ask people to bring a snack / appetizer to share with others.
If you are planning to recoup the majority of the $1,000, you will need ample space to hold (and seat!) 40-50 people comfortably. Please let us know if you are planning to do it outside. Please make sure the space where we will be set up is at least 12 feet wide and 8 feet deep.
We will need 1 outlet and will bring our small PA and everything else required for sound.
Unless otherwise arranged, the host is responsible for inviting friends to the house concert. SMB will provide a flyer for you to use on FB/ email / e-vites, etc. If you are comfortable with opening your concert to the public, let us know and we will help get the word out.
